This was much requested and much discussed among our community and Minecraft PlayStation players, but I can finally say something officially about it. Yes, we are bringing support from PlayStation VR to Minecraft, and we will do that soon! This month, actually !!
Yes, that will be soon!
We Mojang people have been bursting to say something about it for centuries! PS VR support has been a planned PS4 feature since we obtained Sony's endorsement to bring the multiplatform game and Bedrock version to PlayStation 4. There was never any doubt that we would go, just when.
So, I think you would like to know some details?
As soon as we finish the final parts of polishing the experience, PS VR support will arrive via a patch for the main Minecraft game. Everyone with Minecraft on PlayStation 4 will receive this patch automatically. Download this patch and you will have access to the new Minecraft VR functionality. Of course, you will need a PS VR setup to use it. You all have one of these, right ?!
But what is Minecraft x PlayStation VR, I hear you say?
But surely there must be something different?
Yes, of course! There are a lot of new settings and guidelines for you to adjust the VR experience according to your needs. There are also two main ways to play in VR: Immersive and Living modes. We think they're both cool, but it's up to you.
Just like in the main game, you use your DualShock 4 controller to move around and do all the craft and unstable / strong things you need to do, but you will be totally immersed in your Minecraft world. I guarantee that you will jump off your skin at some point.
Despite the pandemic adjusting how we developed Minecraft, the development of Minecraft for PS VR has been relatively drama-free. I dare say that, normal, even. The Minecraft x PSVR experience itself is based on the Minecraft VR technology that we developed for other VR platforms a few years ago. SkyBox Labs took this and has worked its magic to convert and optimize the existing technology for PS VR. And, of course, our friends at Sony were there all the time to guide us, because they know their system better than anyone.
It was a brilliant team effort and we're really excited for PlayStation VR players to experience a stunning and engaging version of Minecraft!
