Rocket League will be free next week



Psyonix announced that the Rocket League will be officially free to play on September 23, 2020, at 8 am PT / 11 am ET / 4 pm BST.

The Rocket League will also receive an update tomorrow, September 16, which will prepare the game for its transition to free-to-play mode. This update will add the following:

  • Cross platform progression linking – existing players will be able to link their platforms to the Epic Games account. More information can be found in the blog post HERE
  • Inherited status items – players who already own and have played Rocket League will receive their inherited items
  • Support-A-Creator Live – Rocket League will join Epic Games Support- Program A -Creator. Starting tomorrow, players will be able to enter a Creator Code in the Item Shop that allows Creators to earn 5% of Credits Spent when their Creator Code is used
  • Various Quality of Life Changes and Additions – More information found at Today's blog

In the move from Rocket League to free-to-play on September 23, the following will also occur:

  • Epic Games Store debut – Rocket League will make its debut at the Epic Games Store when the Rocket League is free to play! Players who download and start the game on EGS will also receive Sun Ray Boost and Hot Rocks Trail items!
  • Renewed tournaments and challenges – Updates to tournament and challenge systems will be available
  • Season 1 Rocket Pass – Rocket Pass returns with the start of the 1st season! More details about the first season will be revealed soon
  • Two new item packs – the Endo starter pack and the Jäger pack will be available for purchase. The packages will contain:
  • Endo starter package – Endo, Gaiden Wheels (gray), Neo-Thermal Boost, Friction Trail and 500 credits
  • Jäger Pack – Jäger 619 (Titanium White), Apparatus Wheels (Titanium White), Toon Goal Explosion (Titanium White) and 1000 Credits
  • Finally, in order to celebrate the free Rocket League tournament, there will be a new in-game event called Llama-Rama shortly after launch on September 23. More information about this event will be shared in the near future!

This Llama-Rama event, as you can see in the image below, seems to be a kind of crossover with Fortnite.

The Rocket's League free-to-play announcement took place in July 2020, when Psyonix revealed that more than 75 million players have played their game since their launch in 2015.
